Because I will be renewing my license this week, I’ve decided to share with everyone my fondest memory with the Land Transportation Office of the Philippines.
2009 was the year when I first applied for my driver’s license. Despite the fact that I waited all day in the LTO office without the comfort of any ventilation in the midst of the heat or any sustenance of food in my system, I was excited to get my driver’s license. Being legal in the Philippine roads meant that I could live out my Michael Schumacher dream -I'm kidding, mom!-
So the moment they called my name to claim my license, my heart skipped a beat... Only to be disappointed.
Why you ask?
Well, for starters, they got my weight wrong. According to them, I’m 55 kg.
Then, they got my height wrong. On record, I’m a 6-footer.
And more irritatingly, they got my gender wrong.
Yes, it was once written in the records of the Land Transportation Office of the Philippines that Miles Montecillo is a dude.
Absolutely perfect.
Can you imagine the embarrassment I had to go through to fix that? So, when I pointed this out to the lady in the counter, she told me I had to go to the next room and fill out a form to officially change this record. Yes, I had to correct THEIR mistake.
FINE, so I did.
And when I went in the room that the lady was talking about, there was a man barking out the different kind of forms available:
Man: “For those changing addresses, please take this form!”
Man: “For those changing their names or surnames, please use this!”
Man: “Anyone else need anything?”
Miles: “Sir…. How about those who changed sex?”
Yeah, yeah, might as well get a laugh out of the ordeal.
